About

Dr. Picchio earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at the National University of Litoral (Argentina) in 2016, working on the synthesis of polymer-protein nanoparticles for coating applications. During his Ph.D., Dr. Picchio was a visiting student at POLYMAT Institute (UPV/EHU, Spain), where work on polymer colloids by emulsion polymerization. In 2017, Dr. Picchio was awarded the “Best Argentinian Doctoral Thesis in Polymers Prize” (XII Argentinian Symposium of Polymers). He continued his postdoctoral research in polymer chemistry at the National University of Cordoba (Argentina), developing novel therapeutic materials for biomedical applications. During this period, He started to perform independent activities as a Junior Subgroup Leader, supporting the supervision of undergraduate and Ph.D. students. Within the framework of these projects, devoted to developing new therapeutic platforms for drug delivery, he secured funding from ANPCyT (Argentina) for basic research (Project Coordinator, PICT 2018-01032). The project FormulARG Pharma was short-listed in MinCyT-Merck award for innovation in healthcare and received new funding from ANPCyT to create an SME (PICT Start-Up 2018-00905). During his postdoctoral stage, Dr. Picchio conducted two research visits to the Freie Universität Berlin (Germany), where he developed novel thermoresponsive nanomaterials for cancer therapy. Since 2019, He has been an Assistant Researcher (Tenured position) at the Institute of Technological Development for the Chemical Industry (INTEC, Argentina), where he leads different research lines on nanoparticles, hydrogels, and ionic gels from deep eutectic solvents for bioelectronics, wound healing, drug delivery, and other biomedical applications. In 2020, Dr. Picchio was awarded a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship and moved to POLYMAT to develop an innovative project on thermoresponsive nanoparticles for follicular delivery to treat Alopecia Areata.
The results of his research have been reported in 34 publications of high impact in original research articles, reviews, and book chapters. His current h-index is 10, and his publications have received over 340 citations, according to Scopus (01/2023). He has published the results of his research in chemistry, polymer, and biomaterials journals such as Nanoscale, ACS Macro Letters, and Adv Mater Technol, among others. Dr. Picchio has delivered a total of 15 oral presentations at national and international scientific events. He also has a strong commitment to the dissemination of scientific results, and he has participated in informative events aimed at the general public levels.
Furthermore, Dr. Picchio is involved in technological development activities in collaboration with different enterprises with the scope of developing materials for wound care, drug delivery, and biodegradable excipients.
Besides research activities, since 2015, Dr. Picchio has been an Assistant Professor in the Physical Chemistry course of the Chemical Engineering degree at the National Technological University (UTN Villa María, Argentina)
