Dr. Picchio is a Postdoctoral Researcher at POLYMAT (UPV, Spain). In 2019, He became an Assistant Researcher and sub-group leader at the Institute of Research and Development on Processes Engineering and Applied Chemistry (IPQA) in Argentina. Dr. Picchio has a Bachelor's Degree and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering. His doctoral training was undertaken at the National University of Litoral in Argentina in polymer colloids and polymer reaction engineering using proteins as natural building blocks. In addition, he was a visiting Ph.D. student at the University of the Basque Country, Spain, and a visiting postdoctoral researcher at the Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. In 2022, he was granted a Marie SkÅ‚odowska-Curie postdoctoral fellowship (EngiNano-HF, Grant Agreement N° 101028881) for developing nanoformulations for the follicular delivery of Janus kinase inhibitors for treating alopecia areata. His research topics are supramolecular hydrogels and ionogels, deep eutectic solvents, protein micelles, polymeric nanoparticles, and new therapeutic approaches for biomedical applications. Dr. Picchio has 51 publications, and his work has received more than 800 citations. 

Research Lines

Our research lines focus on the synthesis of therapeutic nanoparticles, supramolecular hydrogels, plasmonic nanocomposites, ionic gels, and eutectogels for different biomedical applications. We also explore the use of natural polyphenols and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) to prepare deep eutectic solvents that can be combined with other bioderived compounds for developing sustainable materials for healthcare.
